So today was a fun day, I managed to finish piecing the top of my string quilt. So let me introduce you to……………………
PS Sorry about photo overload, they say a picture speaks a thousand words so!!!!
When my hubbie saw me taking pictures from the deck he even offered to hold up my quilt so I could take a few pictures of it, unfortunately the light by this time 5.45 pm this evening was starting to fade so they are not the best.
So psychedelic just needs to be quilted, any ideas how? I may have a go at doing this one myself, but after the last queen sized quilt I did on my machine I vowed never again. But I think with this being smaller I may be able to manage it. I was also thinking of backing this with either fleece or flannel, but I am not sure if this would make it more or less difficult to quilt.
BEAUTIFUL!!! Love the colours and the design!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful Sam, can't help with the fleece or flannel question as I have never used either. I would say less is more with the quilting too, you wouldn't want to distract from all that gorgeousness!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I love this quilt! You did a great job. As for quilting it, what about a big meander all over it? Just a thought. As for fleece or flannel- I've found fleece is sometimes hard to keep the tucks out of. It seems to grow and move at a different rate than cotton fabric. I think flannel is a bit easier to control. Either pin well -- that's helps me the most.
ReplyDeleteI love doing string quilts. I call them 'no mind sewing' quilts. almost relaxing if you don't think too much about the colour placement and just sew!
ReplyDeleteOk! This might just be my next project! I was lucky to stumble onto your blog today through Karens Craft Linking. I look forward to receiving future posts. You have a very nice blog.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! You are so awesome! You need to be very proud of yourself for making such a lovely quilt....!!!
ReplyDeleteI am in awe...

Wow, this is so awesome! I love the colors. You are so talented. Thank you so much for sharing at A Bouquet of Talent. So happy to have you share. :)
ReplyDeleteLove all the colors in this quilt! If you have a cute fleece go for it and give it a try. I love fleece as backings (and so do my nephews). Just use lots of pins. And I thing a big meander would work perfectly, too. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh so pretty. Love all the beautiful colors.
ReplyDeleteSO colorful and cheerful! It would be fun to have this quilt around just to look at all the many fabrics you've included. I love the design.
ReplyDeleteWhat a GORGEOUS quilt! Beautiful photos! Sorry I can't help with any advice on finishing it - I only recently finished my first quilt. Yours is so detailed and just stunning!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to a Round Tuit!
Hope you have a fabulous week!

Lovely! I adore string quilts. I quilted straight lines on either side of the blocks when i made a string quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove! Just finished quilting my string quilt. I backed it in Minky and love it. I have several I've done in flannel as well. I think I prefer the minky backed quilts, both for softness and ease of quilting. I've never used fleece. I'd worry that it would stretch too much.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the quilting - you can do it!
Sam, I love this! I don't think I would ever have the patience to make something this complicated. Can't wait to see how you finish it.
ReplyDeleteYea for you! I love the white strip with all the colors. I'm saving my strips for a string quilt someday. Thankss for sharing. janita
