Sewing up a storm

I have been sewing up a storm the last few days.  I finished the needle book for my swap partner in the  Scrappy Swap over on Flickr hosted by Kat.

I had a really difficult time deciding on fabric for my partner.  I can’t really share what info I did have as that would give the game away.  I just hope she likes it

Fabric used :

Sandy Klop American Jane Yellow Pez fabric from the Peas and Carrots line.

Robert Kaufman Fabric by Laurie Wisbrun, Tufted Tweets, red, Birds on a wire

Konna in charcoal

Miscellaneous orange fabric

I also signed up for a quilting bee on Flickr and I am in the hexie hive.  So our blocks obviously includes hexagons so I have been working on them too.

I just cant decide on how to add the hexagons, either together or apart.  What do you think? and my other question (if anyone is reading this) is, what do you think is the best way to attach them, I can hand sew them on but I am not brilliant at applique! or I could use my machine but how??????

  1. I like them better together. I think that if you just stitch them on my machine with a straight stitch that is close to the edge, that would be fine. I've noticed in photos that other people do it that way.

I've only done one formal swap and then I just did one private swap. I did just put my name in for the Doll Quilt Swap, though.

  2. I love this! I thought it was a wallet at first and think those fabrics would look equally as great made into one.

  3. I prefer them apart, it gives them a modern, edgy look.

  4. I am sure your partner will be delighted with the needlecase, it is lovely. It is hard though second guessing someone else's taste, isn't it?

I like both of the hexie layouts but marginally prefer them together. I have attached hexies before with a machine blanket stitch and it was fairly straightforward to do. I do enjoy though handstitching them on to the background, as I find it quite relaxing, and I am no great shakes at handstitching. So if I can do it you will be just fine at it!
